For those who want a diamond ring that is more than just a shiny band with a nice stone setting with maybe a few accents a pave diamond ring may be the ideal choice. Pave diamond rings are chocked full of gorgeous diamonds and come in a variety of designs that are truly eye-catching.

Just as the name implies this style of ring is literally paved with diamonds meaning that no part of the band is visible in some styles. This look is popular not only for engagement rings but rings for giving her on a special occasion.

Pave diamond rings come in full or half pave designs with the stones either completely or partially covering the band. These rings can also feature a diamond setting ideal for engagement rings or can be simple bands of diamonds perfect for wedding rings or anniversary presents.

When most people think of diamond rings, the first thing that comes to mind are the classic colorless diamonds that have been the traditional stone that many prefer. But there are other alternatives for those looking for a truly unique diamond ring that will be the perfect engagement ring or gift for that someone special.

Diamonds do not have to be colorless to be high quality stones used in high end jewellery. As long as the color is consistent throughout the stone it will comply with the traditional four C’s that shoppers are told to consider.

Engagement Rings In The Princess Cut Style

Friday, September 25th, 2009

For many diamond engagement ring buyers the choice in diamond cut is not usually something they truly understand. Many hear about round brilliant cut stones as well as the contemporary princess cut diamonds but do not really understand the difference between the two.

For years round brilliant cut stones dominated the market sales and they do still make up the bulk of engagement ring sales. But in the 1960’s a new square cut style was created which brought out the shine of the diamond and it retained 80% of the original stone.

This was significant since it allowed the buyer to get all the sparkle from a quality diamond in their ring and saved money by keeping the stone at a bigger size. By using a square diamond cut combined with a profile of an inverted pyramid more of the original stone is retained.

While traditional round stones still dominate the engagement ring market, princess cut diamond rings are quickly catching on with those who want a more modern appearing stone in their setting. This unforgettable stone looks exceptional in a modern styled band made with a more exotic material yet it still fits beautifully into a classic gold band.

Choosing Between White and Yellow Gold For Your Engagement Ring

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Most men head off to the jewellery store to pick out their diamond engagement rings on their own so they can drop to one knee and propose to the love of their life. Many are shocked with the questions they are asked and array of rings they are shown upon requesting to see diamond rings at the jewellery store.

Most thought it would be simply a matter of picking the best looking diamond they could afford and walking out with that ring ready to pop the question. So they are not prepared to decide between something like white or yellow gold on the band that holds the diamond.

Really there is no wrong answer to the question as white or yellow gold it is a matter of personal preference. Hopefully they know their future fiancée well enough to know if she has a preference and use that as a guide.

If they do not know many jewellers feel that white gold enhances the appearance of the diamond and suggest that the band be white gold for this reason. But yellow gold has its fans as well.

The best possible solution is to look at lots of rings and trust your heart that you will pick out just the right one to ask for her hand in marriage with. Many women will be so thrilled at the engagement they will never question the decision that was made on white or yellow gold.

How Old Are Diamonds

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

An age old question that jewellers have been pondering is the question of “How old are Diamonds”.  Well, it is well known that diamonds are formed as a result of the immense pressure, deep within the Earth (anything up to 500 miles below the surface of the Earth).  However, up to a couple of yeas ago, we were not quite sure how long ago diamonds started to be formed.

However, in August 2007, an study published in Nature magazine, reported that diamonds that are over 4 billion years old were found in Western Australia. As this is reckoned to be close to the age of the Earth itself, these same scientists are now looking to see if these diamonds can provide further insights into the formation of our planet.

Read the article on the Nature web site and find out what the gological community is finding out about the creation of the Earth through this amazing discovery.
